There are many terms for various statistics in baseball, most of them with abbreviations. Below are a list of abbreviations, their full names, and their meanings, as used in the Fielding tables.
Primary Statistics[]
Age[]
The player’s age on July 1st of that year.
Pos[]
The defensive position played by that player.
PO[]
Put Outs (the number of "outs" recorded by that player, at that position)
A[]
Assists (the number of "assists" recorded by that player, at that position).
E[]
Errors (the number of times the player attempted to record an assist or an out but failed to do so - "mistakes").
DP[]
Double Plays (the number of double plays, or two-out plays, that the player was involved in making, at that position).
Pct.[]
Fielding Percentage - calculated by (PO+A)/TC.
TC[]
Total Chances (calculated by PO+A+E).
G[]
Games (the number of games that the player played at that position).
GS[]
Games Started (the number of games the player started at that position).
Inn[]
Innings played at that defensive position.
RFg[]
Range Factor by Games played - calculated by (PO + A) / G.
RF9[]
Range Factor per 9 innings - calculated by 9 * (PO + A)/ Inn.
- Note: Ideally range factor would always be computed using innings played (RF9). Currently, innings data is only available for the 2000 season to the present. In order to reduce confusion we have listed both range factors when possible, so that players can be compared across eras.
PB[]
Passed Balls - a pitched ball that the catcher is deemed responsible for not catching, allowing a baserunner to advance.
OSB[]
Opponent's stolen bases - the number of bases stolen by the opposing team
OCS[]
Opponent's caught stealing - the number of opposing players attempting to steal a base thrown out by the catcher
CS%[]
Opponent's caught stealing percentage - the percentage of the time that opposing baserunners are thrown out by the catcher - calculated by 100 * CS/(SB+CS)
